i'll start off my trip recap with the very first place we went to

Athens, Greece!

i have to say, i didn't love Athens city-wise.

however, i loved the ruins and the little towns by the sea.

so it was totally worth it to come just for that

view from our hotel room- the acropolis!

We stayed at the St. George's Lycabettus Hotel.  It was small and sat on top of a hill that led into the main part of the city.  It wasn't the type of hotel that you would want to hang out at, but it was perfect since we were only there for 3 days and spent most of the time site seeing.

On our first day there, we slept nearly the entire time.  Our flight didn't land until 12 PM local time, so we walked into town for lunch and then back to the hotel where we napped for a few hours before dinner.

we went to a little place by the sea for dinner that first night and ate right by the water.

The view was spectacular, and this was the first time we truly experience the local food.  it was incredible.  My family ate fresh fish, while I indulged in a variety of local vegetable dishes.  It was amazing that everything was so fresh and seasoned so nicely.

The second day was spent at the acropolis/ parthenon.  We woke early, and ate a great breakfast spread at the hotel.  By the time we went to the Acropolis, it was already close to 100 degrees {and it was only 9 am!}.  Walking up the stairs was exhausting, but the view from the top was worth it.

Our tour guide took us briefly to the Olympic stadium.  He knew so much about every stop, so it was great to learn about Greek culture during the trip.

We were unsure about whether or not we should take the trip to the Temple of Poseidon, since it was about an hour drive away from Athens, but our tour guide told us it was worth it.  And the Temple of poseidon was, as it was right on the water.  We only stayed about 20 minutes since there was only the temple to see, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.  

Following the Temple, we went to the roman market.  As you'll see in the food post later in the week, we had some amazing Nutella Gelato from a local shop, and then walked around the market.  It's basically old ruins from when that Roman's had their daily markets.  

there were such pretty sites to see and we covered all of this in a day!

luckily, we had a very eager (and willing) tour guide who showed us around

athens.

Our final day in Athens was spent just walking around the town.  We stopped at a few small shops and purchased some little gifts {a pillow case, rings, necklaces....}.  We had to board our cruise ship in the afternoon, so we just took it easy soaking up the last few moments in the city.
